Energy Prices (Early January 2018)

Electricity:  

Following a fire at the Drax station repair work is ongoing; the work is expected to be completed this month. Two 660 MW biomass units are currently offline as a result.

Oil prices may ease if the Iranian unrest settles down and/or US inventories rise, as a result this may put pressure on other markets in turn.

Gas: 

A fortnight of low winds are expected for the UK and western Europe, which is being caused by a high pressure area settling in over Scandinavia. A prediction of colder than normal temperatures could shore-up end-user demand while low winds could increase demand from generators.

The first gas production has been announced at Egypt’s Zohr field, the largest gas discovery in the Mediterranean.
